When I think back to my childhood, one of the best memories that I have is hiding under the bedclothes with a torch, trying to read Roald Dahl stories as quietly as possible. I loved them all, but my favourites were the magical tales of James and the Giant Peach and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - followed closely by Danny the Champion of the World. Roald Dahl takes your imagination on a ride and made you consider other possibilities and other worlds, which is the best thing a writer can ever achieve.
